Work with ECAS

ECAS is looking for:

ECAS has an agreement for internship with two universities:

New Position

     ECAS wishes to recruit a law graduate as a trainee to help launch an exciting new service. As part of its ambitious project to create a European civil society house ECAS is developing a virtual one-stop shop covering all the ways available to citizens to raise issues with the EU: complaints to the Commission, access to documents, petitions, requests to the European ombudsman and European citizens initiatives.(ECIs) The main driver is the new collective right of the ECI, whereby from April 2012 over one million citizens from across EU member states will be able to ask the Commission to propose a European law. Independent legal advice will be necessary.

     Working with the coordinator for the house the successful applicant will have the following tasks:

-providing free legal help to citizens under EU law and where necessary persuading them to group together with others and make use of one or combination of the different procedures mentioned above. The emphasis is on the more serious cases and problem solving not just providing first-level information and advice.

-adding to the website with specific questions and examples and developing the FaQ.

-encouraging different language versions of the site and the creation of national contact points.

      For this assignment a sound knowledge of the European treaties and secondary legislation especially those aspects which effect people’s everyday life is essential, combined with a practical sense of extra judicial and judicial remedies. Awareness of the scope and limits of different enforcement mechanisms for European citizens rights is also necessary. Candidates should have concentrated in their European law studies on such aspects as free movement of persons, environmental law and the Charter of fundamental rights.

      Not only legal skills count for the success of this assignment The successful candidate will be a natural communicator and networker fluent in English and at least another major European language.
