Label STEP

The fairtrade Label STEP is awarded to carpet dealers who assume social responsibility towards the carpet workers by committing to:

• good working conditions and environmentally friendly production methods
• fair purchasing prices ensuring fair wages
• fight against abusive child labour
• independent production inspections 

These fair-trade specifications not only apply to individual handmade carpets, but to the entire assortment of handmade carpets that a Label STEP licensee carries. The carpet dealers have to provide Label STEP with a full account of all their purchase and supply chains, allow inspections and, whenever necessary instigate measures for improvement. STEP is a label of the Max Havelaar Foundation (Switzerland).
