ANNOUNCING A NEW ECAS PUBLICATION
Towards a sustainable Europe-wide civil society
This 200 page publication is essential reading for NGOs, natural and European officials, think tanks and all those involved in civil society development and in the Western Balkans, Turkey, Moldova, Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
For the first time, civil society organisations (CSOs) are themselves analysing on the basis of a questionnaire and extensive inquiries what is the current state of development and what needs to be done, in 12 national reports.
The publication contains the Ljubljana declaration which distils from the national reports 10 key demands to bring civil society in the wider European neighbourhood up to European standards. The declaration has been signed by a significant number of organisations and has had an influence on EU and national policy making. The declaration which has been followed up by guidelines for implementation adopted at a recent conference in Zader (see http://www.ecas-citizens.eu/content/view/76/173/1/4/) is relevant to the enlargement and neighbourhood processes and specific initiatives such as the launch of the Commission’s new civil society facility
