European Citizen Action Service (ECAS) and Barka Foundation have great pleasure in inviting you to the conference entitled “Safety net for the vulnerable migrants - who will provide it?” that will be held in Warsaw on 16 February 2009.
Although the mobility in Europe is often associated with success, there is also the “unacceptable face of the migration” that is the reality experienced by some vulnerable migrants. Interestingly, the full picture of all the difficulties that vulnerable migrants face is difficult to paint. Very little academic work focuses on the situation of migrants in need although the studies of both migration and poverty are abundant. The same segmentation is visible in the social action that either targets migrants or impoverished people. Very recently and slowly a coordinated approach is emerging that aims at the precise category of vulnerable migrants and the specific needs that they have. This conclusion is the rationale behind the conference with a view to discussing the problems of vulnerable intra-EU migrants and how they can be alleviated.
The conference in Warsaw is one of the four national events staged during the project. The event will start with the presentation and discussion about vulnerable intra-EU migrants in Europe. It will be followed by the question of the current Polish migration and its image. There will be also two round-table sessions concerning the scope of the marginalization of Polish migrants and the Polish policies aiming at shaping the migration flows - they should provide input into better operation of one-stop shops and advocacy work of Barka and ECAS.
